About Us

Barulho have played scores of Brighton gigs including Pride and the Brighton Festival.  Audiences have been rocked at One World, Glasgow West End, Truro and St. Ives festivals, and more recently at the Non-Stop Festival in Wroclaw, Poland.  The band is often commissioned to play for Zap Arts and Same Sky community arts group.

Barulho learns its tricks from Pat Power, percussionist, educator and composer - and simply one of the most respected innovators on the UK samba scene. He mixes his extensive knowledge of traditional samba styles with cutting-edge dance beats. A professional musician since 1987, he trained in Afro-Cuban, Brazilian and Haitian traditional percussion with groups such as Olodum, Timbalada, Grupo Afro-Cuba and One Voice Music. He’s toured as a percussionist in the USA, Europe and SE Asia and is a regular session player for signed bands.
